People go to college because they want to advance their educations and because they feel that they need to work towards a degree in order to provide themselves with a better chance for a fruitful and successful career. This is typically a heady time for people as they are exposed to new things and they tend to learn as much about life in general as they do in the classroom. While college may seem like a struggle while someone is attending, a high number of people look back on these years as some of the best of their lives.

According to the results of a recent study, the vast majority of college students admit to having sent and/or read text messages while driving. This is not an admission of having done it in the past, either, as the study asked respondents if they currently take part in this activity.
The study was published recently in the International Journal of Sustainable Strategic Management, and a link to an article describing the study can be found here. Researchers at the McGowan School of Business at King's College in Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania conducted the study.
The following are just a few examples of their troubling findings:
- 80 percent of college students who took part in the survey admitted to sending and/or receiving text messages while driving.
- Men were more likely to make this mistake than women because many of them assumed they were better drivers than most.
- This percentage compares to 27 percent of adults who also admitted to texting while driving.
Clearly, this percentage should prompt action by people who may be connected to college students, as chances are they think that they can text while driving safely. This is obviously a misguided notion, as estimates indicate that people who are texting cause nearly 25 percent of all of the car accidents that occur in the United States. The majority of jurisdictions across the country have either severely limited or completely banned texting while driving, and that is because of all of the data available that prove that it is dangerous.
Texting while driving can also be considered negligent behavior, especially if someone who is distracted in this manner while driving causes a car accident that leads to serious injuries or even to fatalities.
